I think the reader has chances to understand meaning , imagine and explain the own words.
This activity is the processing that reader decode the text and understand actively . So, unless there is no reader's activity , communication don't process and send the meaning. Therefore, the readers have own schema and try to guess the meaning that writers send.

Schema : It is abstract thinking from our experience, like a background knowledge. This is used to understand meaning
organized chunk of knowledge or experience, often accompanied by feelings or emotions
associated with experience at the time the information was stored
Shared assumption : It is shared idea and identical experiences between two people.
a shared code that makes communication take place between reader and writer.
common presuppositions of the writer and reader
Presupposition : It is what writers uncousiously think, such as specific reader, topic, and their idea.
It is that writers have unstated, unaware thought
Prediction : Readers already know and guess next sentences or contexts

Top-down: Viewing the overall, whole part of the text. Getting a rough ideas
ex) first , seeing the index in the book, scanning
Bottom-up: Focusing on vocabulary and syntax
ex) when I study for an exam, I read my textbook detailedly
Interactive: interction of top-down and bttom-up, schma and text
